Space-Gaining and Storage Tactics

In the first step, we learned which crates to prioritize and the storage capacities of each version. However, simply buying crates isn’t enough; in Tarkov, using your inventory space in the most mathematically and practically effective way is an art. In this guide, you’ll learn how to free up massive amounts of space in your storage without buying a single crate, how to downsize your weapons, and how to apply “Tetris” mechanics most effectively.

Disassembling Firearms

To free up more space in your stash, instead of storing weapons as-is, you can disassemble some of their parts to gain extra space.

Parts that can save space:

  • Remove the Grip: When you remove the gun's grip, the gun will occupy only 1 row instead of 2 rows vertically.
  • Remove the Magazine: Removing long and wide magazines from the weapon also eliminates some of the extra slots the weapon occupies horizontally.
  • Fold the Stock: If your weapon has a foldable stock, right-click on it and select "Fold." This reduces the weapon's horizontal length by 1 to 3 slots.

Instead of piling the grips and magazines you’ve removed on top of each other, store them in a Pistol Case or Item Case. Arrange the guns side by side in vertical rows. This way, you can fit 8–9 guns in the space that would normally hold just 3.

On the SR-25, you can free up 2 inventory slots by removing the grip and magazine.

Field Expansion with Assault Vests (Rig)

In Tarkov, some assault vests offer much more internal storage space than the inventory slot they occupy. If you don't have the money to buy a safe in the early and mid-game, you can use these rigs as temporary "mini-safes."

  • MPPV Multi-Purpose Rig: While it takes up 3x4 = 12 slots in your inventory, it provides a massive 24-slot space inside (+12 net slots). It’s perfect for arranging vertical 2x1 items or add-ons inside.

  • LBCR Chest Rig: It takes up only 3x3 = 9 slots in your Stash, but offers a total storage capacity of 18 slots inside (+9 net slots)

Nesting Bags

The "bag matryoshka" is an essential tactic for Tarkov players. It’s impossible to store all the large bags you’ve collected from raids individually in your inventory. That’s why you should stack the bags inside one another in order of size, from the outermost to the innermost.

  • Pilgrim & 6Sh118 Raid Backpack: Use backpacks of this massive size as your outermost layer (base layer). Although their massive size takes up a lot of space in your inventory, they serve as the main framework for holding smaller bags inside them.

  • Partisan's Bag (Partisan Çantası): One of the bags that has revolutionized inventory management. While it takes up 4x5 = 20 slots itself, it provides 4x7 = 28 slots of storage space inside (+8 slots gained). Most importantly, Partisan Bags can be nested inside one another, leaving extra empty slots inside. By nesting 3–4 Partisan Bags inside each other, you can create virtually “endless” empty space in your inventory.

  • SFMP (LBT-2670 Slim Field Med Pack): This bag is a true unsung hero. It takes up only 5x4 = 20 slots in your stash, but offers a full 48 slots of medical storage space inside (+28 slots—a massive gain). If you can’t afford an expensive Medicine Case, you can buy an SFMP very cheaply at the Flea Market and stack all your medicines, bandages, and surgical kits inside this bag. Additionally, when targeting areas like the Health Resort where medical items are plentiful, you can take this bag with you on a raid to gain an advantage.

  • Matryoshka System: Nest the bags from largest to smallest (e.g., Pilgrim → Partisan → Trizip → Scav Backpack → MBSS). This ensures that the inventory only takes up as much space as the outermost bag. You can use the empty space inside the smallest bag at the very bottom to store lightweight gear such as a helmet, headphones, or a mask.

Creating Quick Loadout Sets

Stash management isn't just about freeing up space; it's also about minimizing the time spent preparing for a raid. If you die during a raid, having to search for your helmet, armor, and ammo one by one before joining the next raid wastes your time.

  • Always leave an empty "Prep/Unload Area" at the top or bottom of your stash. This makes it easy to unload items you've brought back from a raid while modding a weapon or scavenging.

  • You can pre-load large rigs (e.g., TV-110, AVS) with ready-to-use supplies, Propital (injector), gauze, a CMS surgical kit, and spare magazines, and keep them on hand as a "Ready Set." This way, when you put on the rig, everything will be right at your fingertips.
